CALS

I'm just gonna go right ahead and prove all you unbelievers that I am really going to become a blogger now! So to begin, here's a shout-out to my cals gals. My cals are my high school gals, my girls that I have been lucky enough to love since the beginning of high school (some longer), and even more lucky enough to continue to stay close with through the college experience. Why the name 'cals' you say?

I'll tell you. Junior year of high school, we read the scarlet letter. For the sake of my cals story, I will give you a run-down on the plot of the book. The protagonist, Hester Prynne, was unfortunate enough to have an affair with... someone... (I don't want to tell you and ruin the book for those of you who haven't read it- this is one required read that I actually enjoyed) and as punishment, was forced to wear a scarlet 'A' on all of her clothing, to 'warn' others that she was an adulterer. For our class, our teacher had us think of something we struggled with in life or were embarrassed about, take the first letter of it and 'wear' it all day the next day- to help us feel a sense of what Hester went through I suppose. I soon discovered my main problem was picking one word from the many I had quickly thought of. So, Becca, Hannah and I had finally cut it down to four words we felt were sufficient (with a bit of exaggeration... hopefully) the winners were- Creepy, Awkward, Loser, and Stalker. We walked around school the next day with CALS all over our shirts. We eventually informed the rest of our girls the true meaning of the acronym- we all discovered we liked the nice ring to it. So, it stuck. The cals gals we became.

We've been through thick and thin, and we are all as different as they come. Yet, we still can't get enough of each other. So, here's to you my cals! Hannah, Becca, Nichole, Jessica, Ashley and Beth.
